About the project:
Discomfort Revisited is a love letter to dumping as an artform. This pack contains exclusively high quality, intention-oriented, and highly polished dump files with a strong sense of identity. This pack aims to push the envelope in terms of pattern usage, chart structure, song choice, etc. – a goal which was achieved beyond my wildest expectations.
“It’s modern but also very referential and pays homage to a lot of different charting
styles and song choices. It’s like fusing the best qualities of mina, midare, lofty,
minty in 2026. If this was Minty 5, I’d literally be proud of it, but it also doesn’t quite
feel like a Minty pack and has its own aura” – Lofty
Six or so years ago, Teruna and I began work on The First Glass Beach Album Pack, which failed despite being a labor of love. However, the skills we learned from that first project – particularly a habit for meticulous attention to detail – allowed us to birth Discomfort Revisited from the ashes of old. This time we aimed higher; to produce the crystallized ideal of what “the perfect dump pack” meant in our minds. We wanted a pack which would stand out not just in terms of quality, but in all other areas as well. To achieve this, each possible aspect of this pack – be it the patterns, GFX, or even the distribution of genres within the songlist – has been the sole occupant of our thoughts for the last five years.
Despite the exclusive experience we cultivated, a core philosophy of this pack was to ensure it had something to offer all players. To further this goal, chart difficulties range from the lowest possible end of 13 MSD introductory dumps, to downright evil 34 MSD boss files. We even have a few charts that turned out rather overrated for you dirty farmers out there. It is hoped that our hundreds; perhaps even thousands, of hours of combined effort planning, playtesting, and revising, along with our continual committal to experiential novelty is apparent in the final product.
To ditch the prose, you could surmise that this pack is essentially World of Corruption but for dumps. This summary, however, would overlook the personal meaning and history this project embodies. While the two projects share many similarities on a surface level; both being packs that strive to represent the peak of what their respective filetypes have to offer, each pack contains the thoughts, feelings, memories, and most importantly, the emotions of its creators. Charting is and always will be an artform, and as such, this pack encapsulates the shared ideals of Teruna and I. The pack pays tribute to our greatest influences, inner struggles, and continued conflict over the production of art for an atypically and increasingly unappreciative community. This is in part where the pack name comes from. As some of you may know, the title of Discomfort Revisited is in reference to the fact that Teruna and I no longer enjoy stepping, which made our continual return to this project quite the dysphoric process at times. You could say it was egocentrism that kept us moving forward, as neither of us had yet released a project yet knew we were capable of great things. As such, this pack is both our first and last serious project. Discomfort Revisited will serve as our legacy – for better or for worse – though I am extremely confident it will be for the better.
Oh, and If you took the time to read this far, thank you. This project means so much more to us than what can be put into words, though I tried my damndest. Making this project has been as rewarding as it has been discomforting, and I have to thank my community for believing in me and assisting me in my many revisitations to this project over these past five years.
