EtternaOnline Keyboard Pack 1 (Submissions Open)

(tentative name) - Banner by GreenDeLeBean - Thank you my goat

This is a new pack project that’s replacing the old EOPack. This pack aims to collect fun conventional simfiles created by users of the community. Quality standards here will be quite lax as a result, so come on and join the fun!

Pack Rules

  1. Your files have to make sense in some way. Do not send me mindless gorilla smash chordjacks or charts that don’t follow the music.

  2. Your files also have to be playable. Do not send me stuff that’s excessively difficult, unbalanced, spiky, or contain a segment that the primary difficulty is from that part.

  3. Most importantly, your files have to be genuine. Do not send me low-effort, mediocre files that you made just for the hell of it. Send something that you are truly proud of making.

  4. No dump/abstract charts. As mentioned before, this pack is focused on conventional/technically accurate simfiles. However, there are certain dump elements that may be allowed depending on the context of the song. In that case, shoot your shot.

  5. No modcharts. This will be for a different special pack project! X-Mod/scroll gimmick charts are acceptable.

  6. Max difficulty of charts should not go above 28 MSD. Avoid submitting charts that are above these difficulties unless you are really confident that they’re good.

  7. No meme files (Unless they’re actually funny, I am the deciding factor on that… unlucky)

  8. It is highly recommended to include graphics with your files. If you can’t include ones, or the quality is too low, graphics will be provided for you… the quality of which may be questionable

  9. Max 3 files per individual. You can submit as many song charts as you want, but in order to diversify the charter rooster, only up to 3 of your best submissions will end up in the pack.

  10. SM/SSC files only. No osu!, Quaver, or files from other rhythm games.

  11. Deadline for submissions will be determined based on the amount of subs.

  12. You cannot participate if you are currently banned from any part of EO. (Site / Forum / Discord)

These rules may seem a bit intimidating at first, but honestly, if you just send something that you find decent, then you have nothing to worry about.

Files passing the requirements above will be determined by me. After that, the way the pack will ultimately come together is up to you. So send over only your best files that you will be proud of showing to the community!

Submission Process

If you meet the above rules, then you are more than welcome to submit using this form link! Once your submission has been successfully entered, it will automatically appear in the main pack spreadsheet, where it will be awaiting review.

Review Process

Reviews will be posted in sets, with each set including up to 5 submissions. If you are in the server and include your Discord username in the submission form, you will be given a role for that set that will be pinged once it has been fully reviewed. If a set has fewer than five submissions after some time, I will review it early and new submissions will be placed in the next set.

Because of the potentially large number of submissions I’m gonna get, please don’t expect detailed feedback on your chart. I will mainly review submissions on a Yes/No basis with little to none to say about a chart. This helps me looking at submissions faster and organize other things in the pack much quicker. In many cases, a charter does not need that feedback if they know what they were going for. For more novice charters, if you have a chart that’s been rejected, I can try my best to explain why if requested, but it is not a guarantee.

There are four statuses used for submissions: Passed, Conditional, Rejected, and Complete.

Passed means the submission is acceptable and is currently included in the pack. These submissions are then shared with the pack participants. The participants can be judges, playtesters, or anyone else involved in the pack’s development (which is you!). Their feedback and evaluation will carry weight in my final decision of keeping these files or not in the pack once it’s finalized.

Conditional is used for submissions that have issues but have the potential to pass once fixed. It can be for any reason that I deem important to address such as layering mistakes, unclear patterning/approach, bad song audio/metadata, etc. If the revisions are not satisfactory to me, then the submission can also end up in Rejected.

Rejected means the submission unfortunately did not pass the requirements for what I am looking to include in the pack. Usually, rejected submissions cannot be resubmitted again unless the file has undergone a significant overhaul. The Rejected status may also apply to files that initially passed but were ultimately not included in the final pack’s song list.

Complete means that the submission is finalized and is ready to be locked into the pack. This is the final step to fully accepting the file into the pack!

Contribution

Beyond just submitting files, you’re welcome to contribute to the pack in other ways as well. You can help by playtesting and providing feedback on approved charts, create GFX sets to charts that you like, make CDtitles, and other things that support the community effort needed to complete the pack faster and together.

More formally, I’m looking for playtesters, graphic designers, and anyone else who would like to contribute their skills to help me finish the pack more efficiently. If you’re interested in becoming an official contributor, feel free to contact me.

Got already many charts submitted, and now it’s time to review them!

Set 1, 2, 3 reviews:

Passed Charts:
Momentary Life (Windoze)

Neolights (Windoze)

thank you my darling (EtienneXD) - Very cute floaty bpm chill chart. I’d recommend looking over the quad usage again because it seems a bit random to me, and also maybe revisit 01:20.074-01:31.479 to tighten the PR on the piano notes. I see that you kinda accentuated one specific tone consistently as [24] jump notes but eventually gave up on that mid-way.

QUANTUMFLUX (nonyu)

Green Coffee Beans Store - Emamouse [reroguro] - I will admit I was a bit concerned about the song choice being too boring, but the chart makes up for it quite well. Good stuff.

乳糜湯気 [reroguro]

Feelgood Koshimizu [reroguro]

LADY MADONNA(17 YEARS OLD) [reroguro]

For future submissions, please include your step artist name in the folder’s name. Also, do you need a cdtitle? It seems like you’re using a placeholder judging by the random Lain image.

Daisycutter [SigWifeStarry] - This is cool. My big concern personally is that 0:46-0:55 is very undercharted, I think you could layer another thing into it, like the drums. Does you think that’s a good idea?

Strange Oriental Discourse (James May)

Conditional:
Nour (Cut Ver.) [Sakisagee] - This one I’m a bit iffy about, particularly because of the excessive use of minijacks in the chart. Majority of them don’t make sense to me and I think you’re forcing them into the song too much. The chart itself plays so exceptionally well though. Look into making a secondary diff that eliminates most of the minijacks and then this can pass in my opinion.

Tetoris (James May) - For some reason when you start the chart there’s a 0 text box appearing at the top left, which needs to be either removed or renamed to indicate it’s a forced x-mod file. Also I think you should slightly clean up the second verse where you try to layer the scratch noises, it’s a bit loosely charted and thus difficult to understand. Conditional for both points, once these are sorted it can pass.

Rejected:
Charismax [SigWIfeStarry] - I love you for charting this song. And honestly, the way this is charted is silly which makes me like it even more. However, the chart suffers from several issues:

  1. You’ve cut the song WAY too short and it feels like you’ve only kept 30% of it. You can definitely chart more and make a longer, cut version of the song in case you don’t want to chart the entire thing.
  2. There’s a huge disparity in difficulty balance between the first half and the second half. The second half is way more harder.
  3. On top of that, the second half in itself doesn’t make too much sense if I gauge it from a complete technical standpoint (the patterns are a bit too dense for the song). But, I don’t mind keeping it as an extra Beginner difficulty if you decide to make easier difficulties that follow the song more faithfully. But just this difficulty alone doesn’t really cut it in my opinion.

Overall, this can be resubmitted if you chart more of the song, and make extra difficulties that follow the song more faithfully, in a less dense approach than your original submission.

U & I (SoldierLovesTacos) - Sadly this chart is beyond the scope of this pack. The chart is more dump oriented than it is technically oriented. It looks good as a scoring jumpstream file though, and I might have a different place this can go to in-case you can’t find a different pack to submit to.

untitled_2 (MrFoap) - This is a full-on dump chart. This pack is focused on technically accurate / conventional simfiles and not dumps. I encourage you to read the pack rules again and submit something more appropriate.

yknow what sure, why not, I’m behind on quota since I missed last secret santa (joke)

Set 4, 5, 6 reviews:

Passed Charts:
caramel ribbon cursetard [tony]
You WIll Know Our Names (DE) [tony]
These are very nice and I’m sure novice players will enjoy trying these ones out. There’s definitely potential to improve the charts by making the patterning more consistent, since your jumps and hands are a bit arbitrarily placed. But the overall approach makes sense. I hope there are a few judges and playtesters that can give feedback where it’ll iron out them out better.

evanescencebringmetoliferemix [IssacAtkins]
(focusing on the hardest diff) Possibly the most easiest file I have in the pack so far. The approach makes sense and I’m positive this will be a doozy for beginner players.

For future submissions, both of you please include your stepartist name in the folder name.

New Jeans Jersey Remix (Part 2) [DMRIw]
I got some feedback on it and the conclusion was that it’s fun. And the chart overall makes sense, so why not?

katyperrylastfridaynight [isaacatkins]
swingrowersnostringsattached [isaacatkins]

Republic of Rough and Ready (Jade5) - Really fucking awesome chart. This is my favorite submission so far. If I had a Rainbow Pass role this would’ve got it.

Swift [jh05013]

Citadel [Axel Sky]

Nyan Cat [Tielesiti] - Well, it’s nyan cat, and it’s repetitive, but it’s properly repetitive so it’s good to pass.

For future submissions, both of you (Axel & Tiel) please include your stepartist name in the folder name.

Yuuki_Ga_Kimi_Wo_Matteiru [SigWifeStarry] - Overall makes sense. Some of the 16ths are a little more freeform than they should be imo, but I think I will be fine with this one.

Conditional:

Vitrum (NzArs) - This was a hard one to decide. The overall approach makes sense, but there are a few dumpy elements that stretch the boundaries of what I would consider fitting for the pack (for example, the 32nd bursts at the beginning). I think you could clean up those dumpy patterns while still retaining the same feeling you were going for with this chart. You could keep this difficulty as a bonus once you make a secondary version that removes the dumped patterns included in the chart.

Fast Asleep (spnch) - This was an even harder one to decide. I get what you’re going for, the overall structure makes sense, almost too much sense if you get what I mean. Because of all the sounds you’re trying to represent the chart ends up being too cluttered and blurry to understand. The only thing I would say that straight up doesn’t make sense to me is the 48th stream representation for the guitar sound at the intro. You said you’ll be working on it more so i’m putting it under the same status until the 3rd submission comes in.

IM THE GOD OF BASS [savimybeloved] - I’m kind of surprised… This chart isn’t as terrible as I thought it would be. The general approach makes sense, and there are some small inconsistencies that could be fixed with proper feedback. However, the second half becomes too difficult with all the 16th jump/hand glut variations, which need to be nerfed. Some of them are also mistimed and should be 12ths instead of 16ths. Please revise the second half to remove those 16th jump/hand gluts, and then we can proceed from there. Because I’m not sure how other people feel about this chart, it’s also placed under Conditional for community feedback. So overall, Conditional status for fixing second half, and community feedback.

Rejected:
Laid Back Journey [tony]
Sadly I am more lost on this one in terms of the consistency/patterning, it requires a lot more work to be passable. The audio quality is also bad (volume too low). I also don’t think this would survive the final cut of the pack, so I’m rejecting this in advance.

Dominus Abyssi Phase I [Axel Sky] - First of all, your music is amazing. Who are you? Surely you’ve had some more music background before using this name, because I couldn’t find any information about you other than your YouTube channel and SoundCloud. Honestly, I didn’t expect to receive original music for the pack, but you’ve completely blown me away with these songs. Unfortunately, despite the music slapping, this chart is extremely underwhelming. In itself, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a bad thing, but the patterns are 90% of the time copy pasted with zero variation which makes the song feel stagnant. This was not as noticeable to me on Citadel which is why that one passed (but still, you should add some more variation to your patterns imo), but here it’s very obvious and starts to get tiring after a while. That said, the music is still very nice, and thanks for showing it here.
