Etterna Echelon Challenge
In late 2023–early 2024, there was a small community challenge that went around with Etterna Echelon Pack; you might have seen conversation around this topic around some circles, but it never was a lasting thing. Earlier today, I was inspired to reimagine this challenge and open it to the community.
Core Gameplay Rules
1. Start with 3 lives.
2. To clear a chart, you must achieve your declared goal for that chart. (minimum 83% J4).
2a. Your declared goal is a score you commit to before playing each chart. (See Scoring Rules for details).
3. Failing to meet your goal costs 1 life. You must retry.
4. Start at [1-1] and progress consecutively. You must clear a chart to move on to the next.
5. You start with 3 downrates (-0.1x each). Use them however you want.
5a. -0.1x (0.9x) on one chart = 1 downrate.
5b. -0.3x (0.7x) on one chart = 3 downrates.
5c. -0.05x (0.95x) on one chart = 0.5 downrates.
6. Bonus charts (labeled #-X) are optional. Clearing one earns 1 extra life. You do not lose a life for failing, and are not allowed to retry.
6a. You do earn points from bonus charts, the same rules with clearing still applies here.
7. Clearing a boss chart (labeled #-BOSS) with max SSR (96.50%) earns half a downrate.
Scoring Rules
1. Before playing each chart, you can declare your target score (minimum 83%).
2. If you don’t declare a target score for the chart, it defaults to 83%.
3. If you meet or exceed your declared goal for that chart, the declared goal is added to your total score.
3a. Assume you declare you will score a 93%, but end up scoring a 97.50%, you will earn only the declared score (9,300 points).
3b. You will earn 0 points if you fail to meet your declared goal.
3c. You may redeclare a new goal before retrying a failed chart.
4. If you use a downrate, your score on that chart is reduced by 25% per downrate used.
4a. Using half a downrate reduces your score by 12.5%.
Verification
1. All attempts must be recorded or streamed in full.
2. No splices or edits are allowed.
3. Submit your attempt either in this thread or DM sphereofnoform on Discord.
4. You don’t need to total your score yourself (unless you want to); I’ll verify and calculate scores manually.
