The intention behind all musical endeavors, whether in terms of thought or material activity, lies in creating and unfolding the illusion of flowing time through segments. These audible segments, filled with movement, are just as illusory as the time they measure. In a more profound and significant sense, rather than the traditional one, music is a “time art”.

  • Then she pushed open the door and walked out. She turned around, about to say something, when she suddenly transformed into an umbrella, then a natural berylite, countless eyes, an embrace, too many thoughts, the elephant in the room, the deepest fear in your heart, a 14-year-old’s dream, gluten, all the possibilities that never happened, an inverted capital letter “E”, the lower half of a picture, the back of a photo frame, an unfinished poem, the sum of all beauties in the world, the missing link, a lover, the title of a work, a request for sources, a sudden emotional impulse, a game that never existed, downward, raw data streams, censored thoughts, orange soda, lingering sadness, an ending, a lemon-flavored kiss, lines,

Rhythmic Auditory Stimuli (RAS) has advantages over other modalities such as vision and touch in terms of action synchronization. Audition has higher fidelity in detecting temporal patterns and structures (Shelton & Kumar, 2010). At the level of neural activity, the auditory system and the motor system have closer and more extensive connections, and the interaction between the auditory and motor systems is also the most stable at the conscious perceptual level (Crasta et al., 2018; Keil et al., 2016; Rosso, et al., 2021; Rosso Maes, et al., 2021; Thaut et al., 2015). Auditory rhythmic stimuli can induce more accurate adjustments of action parameters during the action planning stage (Elliott et al., 2010, 2017), thereby improving the temporal and spatial accuracy of action execution (Peters & Glazebrook, 2020, 2021b). During the auditory-motor synchronization process, auditory and motor neurons are activated by auditory rhythmic stimuli, and their neural activity is changed under the influence of such stimuli (Hanslmayr et al., 2019; Thaut, 2015; Thaut et al., 2015), and the effect of this change persists even after the stimuli cease (Repp, 2005; Repp & Su, 2013). At the action level, auditory-motor synchronization is considered the basis for auditory rhythmic stimuli to improve motor performance in clinical interventions (Thaut, 2013). By providing a stable temporal reference, auditory rhythmic stimuli influence the internal timing mechanism and activate the motor system, thereby enhancing subsequent motor performance. Under the constraint of auditory rhythmic stimuli, the motor system accurately captures the required action duration, which in turn changes the action speed and acceleration (Thaut et al., 2015). Based on the aforementioned characteristics and modal advantages, researchers have applied auditory rhythmic stimuli and auditory-motor synchronization to improve the timing of the motor system (Nombela et al., 2013), range of motion, muscle strength, and endurance (Thaut, 1988).

It seemed like she was crying and telling me something, but I could no longer understand the words she spoke.
I wanted to reach out to her, yet she I none of this was real.
Then nothing happened.

She looked down at me, with a hint of compassion in her eyes: “You know, this isn’t a solution.”
I know.”
“No, you don’t.”
I didn’t dare to look up and meet her gaze.

I made up the entire world, and now I don’t know what is real anymore.

Splivision is not a solution.

I might have mixed us up.”
She stared at me blankly for a long time, then suddenly laughed.
“Did you just realize that?” She seemed incredulous.

“If you were me, I hope you could do better.”
She stared at me blankly for a long time, then suddenly laughed.
After that, I could no longer understand the words she spoke faded into forgetfulness.

You can’t run away from me; we are one,” she said with a mischievous smile.
I know.”

She grabbed the collar of my shirt, tears welling up in the corners of her eyes.
“Can you understand what I’m saying? Can you see through all this?”
I couldn’t bring myself to answer.
She cried. I’m sorry

I grabbed her by the neck, but she didn’t react.
I hope you I disappeared.”
She opened her mouth, as if she wanted to say something.
Did she want to cry, or did she want to laugh?

I’m tired.

She smiled and held out her hand to me. “From now on, I am you and you are me. How about that?”
I didn’t dare to respond.
“So rigid,” she said, taking my hand with a smile. It was the most beautiful smile I had ever seen

Studies have pointed out that the rhythmic fluctuation of neural excitation (neural oscillations) is a key feature of brain rhythm perception-motor synchronization [66]. Even without explicit actions, the perception of auditory melodies can activate the brain’s motor cortex [67-69]. The regular rhythm perception generated by brain neural oscillations is the basis of motor coordination ability [70], and there is a mechanism similar to an “oscillator” or “clock” in the brain’s basal ganglia, which regulates the perception and action of external stimuli and internal neural activities. Research in the field of cognitive neuroscience has shown that when the frequency of neural oscillations is consistent with external rhythmic stimuli—such as listening to pleasant music—the brain is in a state of high excitement and is consistent with the inherent rhythm of the music, showing the characteristic of synchronization between external rhythms and neural oscillations (neural entrainment). Most models of rhythm perception rely on pulses—a regular rhythm perception generated by an internal oscillation mechanism, which is the basis for the ability of synchronization between external rhythms and neural oscillations [7, 14]. At the same time, the synchronization of neural oscillations is also an important factor in promoting attention, prediction, neural plasticity, and synchronous computational connections [71]. It can be seen that the process of rhythm perception-motor coordination may involve neural activities in multiple brain regions, and understanding the relationship between external rhythm frequencies and neural oscillations is helpful to clarify how this brain network is connected.

“Isn’t all this a bit too vague and deliberate?” I stopped typing.
“Do you even care about these things now?”
I looked up and glanced at her, pretending to be relaxed. “No, not at all.” Then I quietly deleted the words I had just typed.
